The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has released the calendar of activities and prohibited acts in connection with the May 14, 2018 synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
In the Comelec Resolution No. 10246 promulgated on Monday, January 15, the poll body set the election period from April 14 to May 21, 2018.
Those interested to run for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan posts are given seven days from April 14 to April 20 to file their certificates of candidacy. This will be followed by a nine-day campaign period which will commence on May 4 and end on May 12.
The poll body warned candidates against committing prohibited acts during the campaign period which include making any donation or gift in cash or in kind; appointing or using special policemen or confidential agents; construction of maintenance of barangay funded roads and bridges; appointment or hiring of new employees, creation of new position, promotion, giving of salary increases, remuneration or privileges, etc.
The Comelec added that campaigning is no longer allowed on May 13, the eve of Election Day.
Meanwhile, prohibited acts during the election period are the alteration of precincts or establishment of new precincts; carrying of firearms or other deadly weapons; use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates; transfer of officers and employees in the civil service; and the suspension of any elective local officer.
Casting of votes in polling precincts on May 14 or the Election Day will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. —R4A
