More than the skills, those who are aspiring to become cops, firefighters and jail personnel should be able to imbibe a strong sense of patriotism while training under the auspices of the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC).
According to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) OIC-Secretary Catalino S. Cuy, the PPSC should put great emphasis on patriotism in its curriculum, aside from knowledge and skills on pertinent laws and operational and administrative procedures.
“The PPSC has a vital role in ensuring that future cops, firefighters and jail personnel are not only equipped with the proper know-how but more than anything else, are inspired by an ardent sense of patriotism in serving their country,” said Cuy.
He said new recruits should be driven by patriotism, and not by a sense of adventure.
The DILG OIC-Secretary was guest of honor during the 24th anniversary celebration of the PPSC at the Quezon City Sports Club.
The PPSC is an attached agency of the DILG which is tasked to provide a comprehensive education and training for all uniformed personnel of Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
During the event, Cuy also called on the PNP to follow the police operational procedures during operations on the campaign on illegal drugs and criminality to prevent violation of laws.
“We already have a manual on police operational procedures. If we just go by the book and adhere to the guidelines in the manual, we will never go wrong,” he said.
He specifically mentioned the Caloocan Police where more than 1,200 operatives were ordered to go back to retraining.
“That is one of the things that we emphasized to them: follow the rule of law,” he said.
