Año condemns killing of Tanauan mayor

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) OIC-Secretary Eduardo M. Año strongly condemns the killing of Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili who was shot dead while attending the weekly flag raising ceremony of the city government on Monday morning.

“The DILG vehemently condemns the killing of Mayor Halili and we will not rest until the perpetrators of this heinous crime is brought to justice, ”says Año.

He says he has instructed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to look into all angles and possible motives in the order to arrest the suspect and unmask the mastermind behind the killing.

“I have directed the PNP specially Calabarzon police director, P/Chief Superintendent Edward Carranza to make this case a top priority,”he says as he extends his deepest condolences to the local chief executive’s family.

Año says he told Carranza to interview key eye witnesses who were present during the flag ceremony as well as the mayor’s bodyguards who could provide a lead on the real motive behind the killings and the identification of the suspect.

“Maraming lumulutang na anggulo kaya trabaho ng Special Investigation Task Force na binuo ni P/Chief Supt.Carranza na pag-aralan at imbestigahan ang mga ito para agad na maresolba ang kaso ng pagpatay kay Mayor Halili,” he says.

Halili was shot dead by an unidentified gunman during a flag raising ceremony in his city Monday.  The mayor and city hall employees were halfway done in singing the national anthem when one gunshot was heard that hit Halili on the chest.  No other person was hurt in the shooting.
