The tropical storm with international name Lan is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Monday night and will be named “Paolo”, the state-weather bureau PAGASA said.

In a weather update on Monday, PAGASA weather specialist Meno Mendoza said the tropical storm was last spotted at 1,040 kilometers east of Visayas packing a maximum sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour with gustiness of up to 95 kilometers per hour.

The said weather disturbance is moving west northwest at 11 kilometers per hour. Based on its forecast track, the weather disturbance will not make landfall in the Philippines and will not directly affect the country.

Mendoza added that it would be the low pressure area located at 115 km West Northwest of Coron, Palawan, and embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) which would continue to affect parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Due to ITCZ, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao, and Palawan will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains with thunderstorms, the state weather specialist said.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies apart from isolated rainshowers mostly in the afternoon or evening.—R4A/DOST-PAGASA
