Tropical Depression Urduja maintains strength, moves toward Samar Island

Tropical Depression Urduja maintained its strength Wednesday evening, December 13, as it approached Samar Island, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

In its 11 pm weather bulletin, PAGASA said the center of Tropical Depression Urduja was located at 295 kilometers East of Guiuan Eastern Samar packing a maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 65 kilometers per hour.

Moving west-northwest at 7 kilometers per hour, PAGASA warned that Urduja will bring moderate to heavy rain within its 400-kilometer diameter.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 1 is raised in the following areas:

  • Eastern Samar
  • Northern Samar
  • Samar

Due to Urduja, scattered to widespead rains are expected in MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao. Residents are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are also advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboard of Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas due to moderate to rough seas associated with the approaching Tropical Depression, the state weather bureau added.

PAGASA also advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned to take appropriate actions. The next weather bulletin will be issued at 5 am tomorrow.
