The Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), one of the country’s premier region, is the second largest contributor to the national GDP, accounting for 17 percent of the gross domestic product.
It has positioned itself as the industrial belt for the country, hosting the highest concentration of manufacturing activity with automotive assemblers predominantly located in Laguna, semiconductors, high-tech industries and electronics in Cavite and Batangas, and garment manufacturers in Rizal.
But how does the country’s premier region sustain its economic stability? What drives the local government units in Calabarzon to become business-friendly and competitive?
Let’s hear it straight from Local Government Operations Officer and DILG IV-A’s Local Economic Development Specialist, Gilberto Tumamac as he answers these and more in the third episode of Sulong Calabarzon. —R4A
